Another Limb Down

Another Limb Down

I’m posting this a little late but given we’re just stepping out of the holiday season I feel like I can give myself a break. New Year’s Eve day was absolutely exceptional. It was darn near 80F so I ended up spending time on my patio with my Chromebook. I like to do some of my work out there, it’s such a beautiful view. It helps me think. No sooner had a sat down and fired up my Chromebook I heard a loud crack. Quickly looking up I see this very large branch fall from the biggest tree in my back yard. The picture below is my Water Oak tree and you can see where the branch broke off.

The limb must have been near 30 feet long and as big as a 9 inch diameter at the base on the limb. Luckily there is nothing out there to be threatened by a falling limb unless one ends up standing under it. Here is a picture of the limb before cutting it down.

Anyways, that event changed the course of my day. Instead of enjoying the warm afternoon with the thoughts in my head I now switched into yard clean up mode and remembered I own a Stihl Wood Boss chainsaw. That sounds like a fun thing to do, let’s get this limb cleaned up right now.

I retrieved my chainsaw of it’s storage location in the garage, grabbed my bar oil and fuel can. I figured 20 minutes and I’ll be done. One hour later I have watched two different YouTube videos on how to start a Stihl Wood Boss and even read through the owners manual about the procedure. For whatever reason I struggled to get the tool started. I did however get my aerobics for the day. I finally managed to start the tool but it ended up burping after about 20 pulls in full choke mode and about another 20 in the 1/2 choke mode. Once I got the tool started, the rest of the job was easy. That saw is amazing and easy to use.
