It finally died

It finally died

My upstairs AC unit has finally given up the ghost. I have kept this system going for several years and some of the work I did myself. I have replaced the capacitor, the high voltage switch and more recently the fan motor. Unfortunately I will need to replace it because the coil finally sprung a leak and the system is the old R-22 based heat pump.

Prices are $75 to $175 per pound and that is recycled R-22. No new R-22 is allowed to be made. A new refrigerant went into effect this January. The new refrigerant is R-454B. This replaces the R-410a and has a lower impact on the climate.

In addition to having this system replaced, I am moving my HVAC equipment to a different part of the house. This will free up the unfinished storage room for something more useful. I intend on converting the space to be my Retro Room. This will be a combination technology room and man cave. While I have hired an HVAC professional to do the heavy lifting on this project, I am doing some of the work. I will post this project when I’m finished.
