My office is ready
My office is ready
Today I took the last step to achieve my newest life change I’ve made. I spent a lot of time thinking about life and retirement. I decided that I needed to go to the office daily. I’ll go into that decision in a moment. I ordered internet to my shop today. I decided to go with the AT&T Internet Air solution which is a 5G internet served via a modem. I’ve used 5G internet before but with TMobile. We loved it until we didn’t. The reason we switched is originally is because our residence only has DSL available. That’s 1990s internet technology. We started having issues with reliability with our DSL provider. The connection wasn’t stable, often dropping in the middle of a work meeting. This was during the COVID era so lots of traffic on the network. T-Mobile was offering high speed 5g internet for only $50/mo. At the time we were paying about $80 for DSL. The 5g solution was offering up to 100 mbs download which was almost 4 times faster than our DSL. Seemed like a no brainer. We loved it until performance fell off drastically. After many many support calls, a tech on the phone offered me some advice. He said the network was over subscribed and there wasn’t a plan in place to resolve my specific area’s issues. He suggested I find a better solution.
We switched back to our old DSL provider but in doing so we did get a speed upgrade so our download is about 25 mbs and upload less than 1mbs. That makes video conferencing and desk shares near impossible. I am hoping that my new 5g internet offering by AT&T is better. My shop is about a mile down the road and not in the valley so I’m expecting a good solid signal. More about this when I unbox and setup the equipment.
Now let me tell you about my life change. Each year around November I start thinking about what I need to do for the next year. Last year I set several goals and worked towards that all year. Sometimes the changes I make are for health or personal development. This year is no different. I have made the decision to go into an office daily, just like the old working days. I love retirement. I have the time to do whatever I want. But now that I’m about 3 years into my retirement I find that I need more than what I’m doing. It’s too easy to be distracted by leisure in the household. I also discovered that I still need to navigate my financial future. I’m living on a fixed budget and I want to further grow my income streams. Using my business as the conduit to achieve that sounds like a great solution. There is a lot of work to do to discover and develop income opportunities. Having a place to go to do that will help me focus. Plus my shop needs a lot of improvement. Going there everyday gives me time to focus on those goals. It’s also good for a change of view.
Not to mention my two employees, Harry and Bella also love it. Harry is my security guard and Bella is my personal assistant. These two work for food and treats.
