Solar Energy

Today’s post is about solar energy. I was thinking about redesigning our patio space by adding a pergola and furniture that makes more sense. As I was thinking about the pergola I realized that I could add solar panels to the roof for shade and power generation. From there I hopped on the solar wagon and started reading. I decided to make a project page so I can collect my thoughts and document the project along the way. I’m in no rush here but I think it makes perfect sense to lock in an energy cost now.

I think the ideal configuration will cover 100% of my summer and winter energy needs. This house is all electric so the costs really spike on the hottest and coldest days of the year. I would like to have the option to store collected energy in a battery for the purposes of avoiding power outages. We have those frequently out here in rural America. Lastly, I can see a whole house generator one day but that isn’t a day 1 objective.

I’ll add this to the list of projects to juggle.
