Roof Leak – Repaired?
Roof Leak – Repaired?
I wanted to update on the roof leak I discovered the other day (original post). I went up on the roof on a dry day and the pitch of that roof is extreme. I’ve seen other guys climb on that roof but from my perspective it wasn’t possible. I ended up buying a safety harness to do the job. The harness I bought from Amazon isn’t really what I needed. The kit is intended to be worn in such a way that you can easily move about and work on a flat surface where there is a fall risk. The clip connect to the back of the harness which made it difficult to adjust the location of the lock mechanism. What I needed was more like a climbing harness with a clip in the front so that I can hang from the rope. I managed to make it work but it was awfully awkward.
I didn’t find the smoking gun. What I did find was a gap behind some flashing that may allow water to get behind the shingles under the right conditions. I also found a few nail heads that became exposed. I covered those heads with sealant and added some additional flashing and sealant to the gap I discovered. I don’t know if that fixes the leak or not. I’ll need to wait for more rain and see if moisture collects or not.
