Widow Maker
Widow Maker
This morning started off like every other morning except I woke up to an alarm. I had early Physical Therapy today at 8:40 am. It takes about 40 minutes to get to their office so I was up at 6 am to get ready. The dogs ran outside at about 7 am and the yard looked as good as it did the day before. I had just recently cut the yard so it still had that fresh cut look. When I got home around 11am this is what I saw. Just beyond my dogs is a large branch that fell from the tree in the center of the picture. It was about 3 to 4 inches diameter. Some people call those window makers.

I don’t yet have a gas powered chain saw but it is a priority tool now. I ended up using my Ryobi cordless pole saw to break up that limb into more manageable pieces. Here is a closer look at the limb that fell. The picture in the center is the location where the limb broke off the tree. The base of the limb didn’t seem rotten but if you look closely you’ll see some dark discoloration. I think there must have been a crack that festered. The last picture is of Bertha, filled up with limb sections for the burn pile.

That job probably would have cost about $250 or more to hire out. I have more tree work waiting for me. It’s never a dull moment in the Wilderness.
